We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal data. By using the SWAPI App, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Information:

• Phone number (for OTP verification)
• Email address (optional, for email authentication)
• Full name or display name
• Profile photo/avatar (optional)
• Google account information (if you sign in with Google OAuth)
• User ID (automatically generated)

Listing Information:

• Product/service descriptions and pricing
• Product images (captured via camera or uploaded from gallery)
• Product category, subcategory, and condition
• Location (manually selected city or GPS-based)
• Salary range and job details (for job listings)

Communication Data:

• Chat messages with other Users
• Message timestamps and read/delivery status

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device type, model, OS and version (Android/iOS)
• Unique device identifiers
• GPS coordinates (if you grant location permission)
• Approximate location based on IP address
• App features used, search queries, listing views

3How We Use Your Information

• Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
• Enable you to create, edit, and manage Listings
• Facilitate communication between buyers and sellers via in-app chat
• Send push notifications for messages, updates, and alerts
• Display location-based Listings relevant to you
• Detect and prevent fraud, scams, and abuse
• Monitor and investigate suspicious activity
• Enforce our Terms and Conditions
• Improve app performance, features, and user experience

4How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Other Users

• Your display name, profile photo, and verification status are visible to other Users
• Your Listings (including product images, descriptions, and location) are publicly visible
• Your chat messages are shared with the Users you communicate with

4.2 With Service Providers

• Supabase: Backend database, authentication, and storage
• Firebase: Cloud messaging and push notifications
• Google Maps: Location and mapping services
• Google OAuth: Authentication services

4.3 For Legal and Safety Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law, to comply with legal obligations, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SWAPI, our Users, or the public.

5Data Retention

• Your account information, Listings, and messages are retained while your account is active
• Cached location data is retained for up to 1 hour for performance optimization
• When you delete your account, your profile, listings, chat messages, and uploaded images are permanently removed
• Some information may be retained for legal, security, or compliance purposes
• Accounts inactive for 2+ years may be deleted with prior notice

6Data Security

• Data in transit is encrypted using TLS/SSL
• Sensitive data at rest is encrypted in the Supabase database
• Row-Level Security (RLS) policies restrict unauthorized data access
• User authentication via phone OTP, email, or Google OAuth
• Regular security audits and monitoring for suspicious activity

7Your Privacy Rights

• Right to Access: View your profile and data within the App, or request a copy at support@swapi.in
• Right to Correct: Update your profile information and edit or delete your Listings at any time
• Right to Delete: Delete your account via Profile → Settings → Delete Account
• Right to Withdraw Consent: Disable notifications, location, or camera access through device settings
• Right to Data Portability: Request an export of your data by contacting support@swapi.in
• Right to Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with the relevant data protection authority in India

8Location Privacy

• GPS location is used to show nearby Listings and allow location-specific posting
• You can manually select a city/region instead of using GPS
• Your precise GPS coordinates are not shared with other Users — only city/region is shown
• Location data is not sold to third parties
• You can disable location access at any time in device settings
• GPS location is cached for up to 1 hour; historical location data is not permanently stored

9Children's Privacy

The SWAPI App is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will promptly delete such information. Parents or guardians should contact us at support@swapi.in.

10Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notifications, email, or push notifications, and by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
